CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.--()--IKEA U.S. today announced it has identified a site in Marietta, GA and will submit plans to the city for a second Atlanta-area store. IKEA has not yet determined an exact timeframe for construction to start or for the opening of the store. Until then, customers can shop at Midtown’s IKEA Atlanta or at IKEA-USA.com.

Located approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta in the City of Marietta, the proposed IKEA Marietta store would be built on 34 acres on the western side of Interstate 75, between the Marietta Parkway and Delk Road exit interchanges, and accessible via Franklin Gateway. Store plans will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide.

“After 10 successful years in our Midtown location, we are excited to expand our presence with a new store in the Atlanta area,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. “This proposed Marietta store will bring the unique family-friendly shopping experience closer to customers in Cobb County and beyond.”

IKEA Marietta would include family-friendly features that the company is known for including inspirational room-settings and displays, and areas dedicated to children and families. In addition to the hundreds that will be employed during the construction phase, hundreds of coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens. The future IKEA Marietta also would provide significant annual sales and property tax revenue for local governments and schools.

Drawing from its Swedish heritage and respect of nature, IKEA believes it makes business sense to minimize environmental impacts and contribute to a low-carbon society. IKEA evaluates locations for conservation opportunities, integrates innovative materials into product design, works to maintain sustainable resources, and flat-packs goods for efficient distribution. IKEA also will evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. renewable energy presence at nearly 90% of its U.S. locations.
