Streem Raises $1.725M in Seed Funding

Investment from leading VCs will be used to expand team and accelerate product development

PORTLAND, Ore.--()--Streem, a technology company connecting home service professionals to their customers through intelligent, on-demand video streaming, today announced venture funding of more than $1.7 million from investors including GVR Fund, Flying Fish, Columbia Ventures Corp, Rogue Venture Partners and Curious Capital. The round also features investment from betaworks ventures, Greycroft, GGV Capital and General Catalyst AR Fund in conjunction with betaworks visioncamp. Streem has been chosen by betaworks to participate in the program, which brings together a small group of companies focused on frontier technologies, primarily augmented reality and computer vision.

Targeting the $400 billion home services industry, Streem has created a mobile platform that uses a combination of augmented reality (AR), computer vision and machine learning to make it faster and more convenient for home service professionals to diagnose, quote and perform work — from repairs to remodels.

“While there has been a lot of innovation in the home services industry around helping consumers find a provider, we haven’t seen nearly as much when it comes to enhancing collaboration and communication,” says Peter Rojas, partner at betaworks ventures. “We’re excited that Streem is changing this through a platform that simplifies a necessary, but often burdensome, process with a tool that is as easy to use as making a phone call.”

The status quo is inefficient and frustrating for both home service professionals and consumers. Some professionals spend 40-60 percent of their day stuck in transit. As a result, professionals can often be fully booked for bids or work several weeks out. The Streem platform allows home service professionals to “beam” into customers’ homes in real time to diagnose the problem, provide a quote and capture key data. With the help of Streem, professionals will show up prepared with the correct parts, supplies and equipment to complete the job efficiently.

Platform features include:

  • On-demand, cross platform video calling that seamlessly connects home service professionals to consumers
  • A digital toolbox to take measurements, save notes and guide the conversation with a laser pointer and arrows anchored to the 3D map of the space created during the Streem call
  • Computer vision that accurately identifies objects, brands, models and serial numbers
  • Video recording, image and 3D data capture capabilities to aid clarity and accountability in quotes and contracts

“For home service professionals, time is money. With Streem, we’re helping solve many of their pain points, such as time spent in transit and traffic, which takes them away from getting a job done,” said Ryan Fink, CEO & co-founder of Streem. “Seasoned professionals have an immense amount of experience to draw on when doing their work, and by using Streem, they make it easier and more convenient for themselves, and consumers, to deliver this invaluable resource.”

Streem will use this round of funding to accelerate product development, grow strategic partnerships, bolster marketing initiatives and expand its team. Joining the company’s leadership is Jef Holove, a seasoned Silicon Valley executive and twice startup CEO, as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Streem, Holove held CEO positions at Eye-Fi and Basis Science (acquired by Intel) as well as general manager roles at Intel and Logitech. In his new role, Holove will be tasked with helping Streem scale efficiently both from a staffing and business development standpoint.
