AnchorFree Issues First Transparency Report Highlighting Governments’ Requests for Information

MENLO PARK, Calif.--()--AnchorFree released today its inaugural Transparency Report to the public. The report, which includes data from all of 2016 and the first ten months of 2017, highlights the number, geographic location and types of requests for information the company received from government agencies around the world.

The report reveals that between January 1, 2016 and October 31, 2017, AnchorFree received 160 requests for information from governments around the world. The vast majority of those requests, 121, came from the United States, including local, state, and federal officials. France had the second highest number of requests, with 13. Most requests were subpoenas and requested user data tied to specific IP addresses. AnchorFree’s systems do not log or store specific user IP addresses and it cannot identify an individual user based on a public-facing IP address that law enforcement agencies provide to AnchorFree. As outlined in the report, AnchorFree has not shared any information with any government agency in the US or abroad.

“The AnchorFree solution simply does not collect information that allows us to trace Internet usage back to individual users. Therefore, we do not and cannot provide information to governments about what websites users visit when using our services,” says David Gorodyansky, CEO and co-founder of AnchorFree.
