Progress Named a “Cool Company in Cognitive Computing” by Big Data Quarterly Magazine

Debut List Highlights 33 Innovative Companies in Cognitive Computing and Artificial Intelligence

BEDFORD, Mass.--()--Progress (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced it has been named to Big Data Quarterly’s inaugural “Cool Companies in Cognitive Computing” list, which recognizes innovative vendors who are helping customers harness the opportunities within this emerging area of information technology. In all, 33 companies were highlighted in this specialized list of products and services that are paving the way for the new era of cognitive computing.

“Cognitive computing and AI are about increasing efficiency, agility and innovation,” remarked Thomas Hogan, Group Publisher of Big Data Quarterly. “Today, many people associate them with high-profile examples like self-driving cars and robots. However, new technologies are paving the way for organizations of all types and sizes to benefit from smarter systems and applications. We created this list to point out companies that are really transforming the space.”

Progress was recognized for its cognitive applications strategy, including its 2017 acquisition of DataRPM, a provider of cognitive predictive maintenance software for the industrial IoT (IIoT) market. First announced in January, Progress’ cognitive applications strategy focuses on providing the technologies to enable customers and partners to quickly build modern business applications that are intelligent, immersive, and connected – creating better application experiences at dramatically lower cost.

Cognitive predictive maintenance from the Progress® DataRPM® solution is a critical component of this strategy as it democratizes machine learning, so that organizations of all sizes can leverage the power of predictive analytics in their business applications. For industrial companies, this means gaining control over the torrent of sensor data coming from machines to enable the prediction of machine failures before they occur, delivering millions of dollars to the bottom line in failure avoidance and quality and output increases.

“We’re proud to have received this recognition and excited for what the future of these technologies can bring for our customers and partners,” said Dmitri Tcherevik, Chief Technology Officer, Progress. “Cognitive technologies will drive tremendous value for all organizations. We are focused on making these technologies accessible to our customers and enabling them to build the future of their business applications today.”
