GEBA Plans Now Available to All Federal Civilian Employees

FORT MEADE, Md.--()--The non-profit Government Employees’ Benefit Association (GEBA), founded in 1957 by employees of the National Security Agency and providing benefits to the 17 agencies that make up the nation’s intelligence community, is expanding to now serve all federal civilian employees and retirees.

“Employees throughout the Federal government now have access to our products and services, along with the attractive pricing that our members have enjoyed for more than 60 years,” said GEBA Executive Director Michele Rackey. “Now is the ideal time to learn more about GEBA and take advantage of all we have to offer.”

All federal employees are encouraged to enroll in GEBA’s dental and vision plans during the Federal Benefits Open Season, which runs from November 13 to December 11, as well as an extended period offered by GEBA that ends December 18. GEBA’s dental plan, offered through Delta Dental, is only available during the open enrollment period, while enrollment in GEBA’s vision plan can be made year-round.

According to Rackey, GEBA differs from other programs in that it covers dependent children up to age 26, a longer period of time when compared to the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) which provides coverage up to age 22. After adult children reach age 26, they can continue coverage as an individual member under GEBA’s Sponsored Family Member Program.

“A benefit of working with GEBA is that members have an advocate from our staff who will provide assistance in working with the insurance companies, while those in FEDVIP programs must deal directly with the insurance providers,” Rackey said.

“Open Season is an important time for Federal employees, and we are pleased to be able to offer our products and services to all eligible employees and retirees, across the entire Federal employee workforce,” said Terry Santavicca, GEBA Board of Directors Chairperson. “We encourage everyone to learn about GEBA’s wide variety of high quality insurance products provided by financially strong and highly reputable companies at affordable prices.”

In September 2017, the non-profit announced the launch of GEBA Wealth Management, a new division offering a range of fee-based financial planning services, as well as comprehensive plans to address members’ financial situations – including management of their investment portfolios.
