Tyler Technologies’ eFileTexas Solution Achieves Filing Milestone of 20 Millionth Envelope

Tyler and the Texas Office of Court Administration reach significant e-filing milestone

PLANO, Texas--()--Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that Texas courts filed their 20 millionth envelope through eFileTexas, the electronic filing solution provided by Tyler. The average envelope consists of roughly 5.5 pages, meaning paper usage has been reduced by as much as 100 million pieces of paper. This significant milestone underscores the success the Texas Office of Court Administration (OCA) and the Texas court system has had with eFileTexas – which uses Tyler’s Odyssey File & Serve platform.

“The court system in Texas is extremely complex, and we’re pleased eFileTexas has allowed us to simplify many of our processes,” said David Slayton, administrative director, Texas Office of Court Administration. “Reaching the milestone of 20 million e-filed envelopes filed and accepted is a major achievement and speaks to the rapid adoption of eFileTexas.”

eFileTexas is a complex e-commerce solution that assists courts in creating a paperless system, allowing Texas courts to operate more efficiently and improving access to court information. In addition to civil filing, eFileTexas includes criminal e-filing and e-filing for self-represented litigants (SRLs) via eFileTexas Self-Help. With Self-Help, SRLs are guided through the process of filing court documents through an innovative, web-based program based on Odyssey Guide & File, which is part of the Odyssey File & Serve platform.

eFileTexas has more than 200,000 registered users, and has eliminated 100 million pages of paper – enough to save roughly 12,000 trees. eFileTexas is integrated with 14 different electronic filing service providers (EFSPs) and nine court case management systems, and drives further efficiencies and paper savings through those systems.

“We are proud to have helped the OCA achieve its 20 millionth envelope filing with eFileTexas,” said Bruce Graham, president of Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division. “The OCA has set a standard for other court systems by making their processes paperless, improving access to justice, and increasing efficiency for the entire court system in Texas.”

When the eFileTexas project began in January 2014, it became the largest e-filing implementation in the country. It was successfully rolled out within 12 months to 100 Texas counties and to all 254 counties nine months ahead of schedule and on budget. In 2017, the OCA signed a $72 million contract extension to support eFileTexas for four more years. This model is being replicated across the country – most recently in Illinois where the AIOC successfully deployed eFileIL on budget in less than one year to 87 counties.

Tyler has successfully implemented Odyssey hundreds of times across the country. In all, Odyssey serves more than 900 counties with a combined population of more than 120 million, comprising 40 percent of the U.S. population.
