JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, today opened the doors of its Jacksonville store to customers at 9 a.m. EST. The 290,000 square-foot IKEA Jacksonville was built on 25 acres along the northwestern corner of Interstate 295 and Gate Parkway, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville.

Before the doors opened, Green Sykes welcomed the community with a traditional Swedish log-sawing ceremony, bringing good luck to the new store and its guests. In addition to brief remarks by City Councilman Danny Becton, Economic Development Director Kirk Wendland and IKEA U.S. president Lars Petersson, Green Sykes was joined by members of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 38, who raised the U.S. flag, IKEA Jacksonville Co-worker Siv Idestrom, who raised the Swedish flag, and Chamber of Commerce President Danny Davis, who raised the Florida flag.
Beginning today, and through Sunday, November 12, IKEA Jacksonville will recognize loyal, enthusiastic customers by giving away thousands of dollars in gift cards and merchandise. Also today, select BILLY Bookcases will be available for only $49 in all IKEA stores nationwide and on IKEA-USA.com, while supplies last. All IKEA FAMILY customers at IKEA stores nationwide can purchase three bags of any frozen meatballs (veggie, chicken or Swedish meatballs) for only $19.99.
