Express Logic’s ThreadX® RTOS Surpasses 6.2 Billion Total Deployments

Industrial Grade RTOS powers mobile, consumer, industrial, and medical devices worldwide

SAN DIEGO--()--Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes), today announced that its ThreadX RTOS has surpassed 6.2 billion total deployments. This milestone has been verified in a new report by VDC Research of Natick, Mass., a highly respected leader in embedded systems market research. VDC’s report highlights the long-time presence and continued explosive growth of ThreadX throughout the market for deeply embedded devices and its role as the cornerstone of the X-Ware® IoT Platform connectivity solution.

Express Logic’s ThreadX is an Industrial Grade RTOS that provides embedded developers with priority-based preemptive scheduling, optimized context switching, and a highly intuitive API. ThreadX is deployed in environments where low overhead, high performance, and solid reliability are essential, and in products from sectors that include consumer electronics, medical and scientific instrumentation, industrial control and automation, aerospace, and more.

ThreadX Deployments Significant and Expected to Continue

ThreadX leads the way in wireless connectivity, particularly among the SoC-based subsystem of products that offer Bluetooth, Baseband, and WiFi radio. Such products include the market-leading Apple iPhone® and iPad®, and HP® inkjet printers and All-in-One devices. With the continued evolution of device, sensor, and cloud-infrastructure connectivity and the introduction earlier this year of Express Logic’s X-Ware IoT Platform, ThreadX is positioned to achieve even greater growth in the years to come.

“The adoption of ThreadX in the wireless, IoT, and other connectivity-related markets is impressive,” said Chris Rommel, Executive Vice President, VDC Research. “By combining our long-standing embedded device, processor, and operating system research with information on dozens of leading ThreadX customers, we have a detailed view of ThreadX use over the past two decades. Because ThreadX is small, safe, secure, advanced, fast, and easy to use and adopt, it has become a favorite among embedded developers and SOC manufacturers from multiple sectors.”

Solid Solution Designed for the Success of Embedded Developers

Express Logic designed ThreadX specifically for use in deeply embedded memory- and processing-constrained devices. Over the two decades since the introduction of ThreadX, its widespread adoption by manufacturers of such devices validates that design. Moreover, ThreadX is arguably the world’s most widely certified commercial RTOS, precertified to IEC 61508 SIL 4, IEC 62304 Class C, ISO 26262 ASIL D, UL/IEC 60730, UL/IEC 60335, UL 1998, and EN 50128 SW-SIL 4. ThreadX has also been certified for DO-178B applications and is fully MISRA-C:2004 and MISRA C:2014 compliant.

In addition to its Industrial Grade design and the breadth of its certifications, ThreadX provides consistent naming conventions, user-friendly APIs, and solid development-tool support. That support, which includes an extensive set of free downloadable reference demonstrations, full ANSI C source code, and internal expertise at support centers worldwide, helps Express Logic customers and partners alike to make the most effective use of ThreadX for faster, easier development, and shorter time to market. In fact, market intelligence firm Embedded Market Forecasters (EMF), has found that ThreadX ranks highest in helping customers get to market faster 10 years in a row.

“ThreadX now has surpassed the 6.2 billion mark in total deployments with an almost double-digit compounded annual growth rate. This validates our 20-year commitment to easing and enhancing the embedded development experience,” said William E. Lamie, President, Express Logic. “We are excited about this significant achievement, and look forward to the future in continuing to serve our customers and to help them be even more successful”.

Developers can view demonstrations of Express Logic’s IoT platform solutions on the RTOS.com website and at the Express Logic booth 212 at Arm TechCon, Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif., October 25–26, 2017.
