INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Inc. is closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Irma, and our teams are preparing to serve health plan members and associates in Florida during this state of emergency.
We know this can be an incredibly difficult time. Teams across the company are preparing to implement measures to help the members of our affiliate health plans who reside in Florida receive health care and medications they need—understanding that they may be unable to access their regular health care providers. Additionally, LiveHealth Online, our 24/7 telehealth service affiliate, will offer free online medical and psychological visits to anyone impacted by Hurricane Irma, regardless if they are a member of one of Anthem’s affiliated health plans.
For members of Anthem’s affiliated Medicaid and Medicare plan in Florida, Anthem has taken steps to ensure those members will continue to receive the best possible health care at this time by allowing them to:
- Visit either in-network or out-of-network physicians or service providers;
- Contact in-network pharmacies which can provide refills of approved medication if medication has been lost or damaged;
- Request replacements for medical equipment and supplies that have been damaged or lost.
Anthem national accounts members who live or work in Florida and whose prescription drug plan medication has been lost or damaged due to Hurricane Irma can get refills at any pharmacy. Members are encouraged to call their Anthem health plan with any questions so we can help them find appropriate care during this challenging time.
The Anthem Foundation has also partnered with the American Red Cross, as a $1 million-level member of our Annual Disaster Giving Program, to support impacted residents. Local Red Cross personnel and shelters will be providing meals, relief supplies, support, and other assistance to thousands of Floridians and first responders statewide. The Anthem Foundation has also pledged to match all associate donations to Anthem’s employee assistance fund and the American Red Cross at 100 percent. Additionally, the Anthem Foundation awarded a $75,000 grant to AmeriCares to support its Emergency Response Partner Program (AERP), which provides medicine, medical supplies and mental health services to those experiencing disaster-related trauma.
