Luvera Law Firm’s David Beninger Named 2017 “Tom Chambers Trial Lawyer of the Year” by the Washington State Association for Justice

SEATTLE--()--Luvera Law Firm is proud to announce that partner David Beninger recently received the 2017 “Tom Chambers Trial Lawyer of the Year” award from the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ).

The Trial Lawyer of the Year distinction is awarded by WSAJ members, a group of peer attorneys from across the state, to “a lawyer who advances the art and skill of advocacy, either in trial or by training others so as to benefit humankind.” Attorneys who earn this award must be exceptional in trial. In addition, they must also make a difference through education and industry leadership to benefit society.

“The best part about being a plaintiffs’ trial lawyer is helping clients access the power of the civil justice system to protect their rights and to encourage positive changes in others,” Beninger said. “I’ve devoted my life fighting for people who have been wronged and are brave enough to stand up for what’s right, often against incredible odds. It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers for doing a good job at what I love.”

The award is named after the late Washington State Supreme Court Justice Tom Chambers, who was a preeminent Seattle trial attorney and past-president of the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington State Association for Justice, prior to serving on the bench. In Chambers’ words, this award “goes to the best of the best and someone who has used the law and the courtroom to level the playing field, and who shares and teaches others.”

In the last year alone, Beninger won a $38.25 million jury verdict in the largest bicyclist-injury case in Washington’s history, and a $12.5 million award for the family of a former Chief of Police in a fatal car collision. He also represented Theresa Bigler against Olympus Corporation, after its superbug contaminated medical scope led to her husband’s death. Previously, he represented plaintiffs in claims arising from the Washington D.C. Sniper shootings, Tacoma Police Chief David Brame’s domestic violence murder-suicide, the Olympic Pipe Line explosion that killed two 10-year-old boys, and two Anacortes refinery explosions that claimed the lives of 12 workers.

Beninger is a member of the Damage Attorneys Round Table (DART), an invitation-only group comprised of the top five percent of trial attorneys in Washington representing injured people. He is also a member of the WSAJ Amicus Committee, and a senior member of the WSAJ Judicial Selection committee. Beninger has also been selected as a “Super Lawyer” by Washington Law & Politics in each of its annual editions.

Beninger often teaches, lectures and writes on trial advocacy and legal issues. He is also a participating faculty member for the International Justice Advocacy Africa trial training program for African lawyers.
