PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Standard Charitable Foundation, Standard Insurance Company (The Standard) and its employees contributed more than $5.4 million last year to nonprofits. The contributions prepared children for success in the classroom, broadened access to the arts, helped people with disabilities thrive independently and supported families facing significant challenges. The Standard provides philanthropic support annually through its corporate giving program and The Standard Charitable Foundation.
During the company’s annual Employee Giving Campaign, seventy percent of employees and retirees made donations that were matched by The Standard and parent organization Meiji Yasuda to benefit more than 1,500 nonprofits in communities where employees and customers of The Standard live and work. Employees of The Standard also volunteered thousands of hours in their communities on company-donated time.
“The Standard is made up of generous, talented people focused on business goals that put people first,” said Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. “Understandably, that combination of personal generosity and professionalism shapes our culture of caring,” Ness added.
The Standard’s many programs include providing paid time off to volunteer at their local schools and nonprofits and even to become firefighters. Cabe exemplifies The Standard and its employees’ commitment to their communities.
The Standard’s annual Community Engagement Report outlines the company’s philanthropic activities and highlights employee volunteerism such as its annual Volunteer Expos held in September in both Portland, Oregon and Cincinnati, Ohio. The Expos connect more than 150 nonprofit organizations with employees and other members of the community, helping them find volunteer opportunities that match their skills and interests.
