PISCATAWAY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nicholas Gettas, M.D., a 19-year Cigna veteran with provider roots in private and academic family medicine, has been named senior vice president and chief medical officer for CareAllies, Inc.
Gettas most recently provided market clinical leadership for Cigna's delivery system alliances and value-based collaborative arrangements across the country, bringing deep expertise that will directly benefit CareAllies customers and the patients they serve.

In this new role for CareAllies, which was launched in 2016, Gettas will lead clinical operations for the service company, including medical and behavioral management, case management and disease management. He will also be responsible for developing clinical strategy for the Medical Management and Population Health Management functions, and for designing clinical models that improve patient health outcomes and cost management across all lines of business.
Gettas most recently served as Cigna's chief medical officer for Regional Accounts, Government, Select and Individual and Family health insurance plans, and national medical officer for Cigna's Market Facing Clinical Organization. Before joining Cigna in 1998, Gettas served as CEO, president and medical director of Commonwealth Care of Virginia, where he initiated and developed a multi-practice Independent Physician Association (IPA) - Central Virginia’s first physician-led IPA – while also maintaining his faculty position at Medical College of Virginia and serving as medical director for NYLCare.
