NorthEast Community Bancorp, Inc. Reports Selected Results for the Three Months Ended June 30, 2017

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--()--NorthEast Community Bancorp, Inc. (OTC: NECB) (the “Company”), a majority owned subsidiary of NorthEast Community Bancorp, MHC, reported net income of $2.27 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2017 compared to net income of $1.28 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2016. The increase in net income was primarily the result of continued loan growth in the lower Hudson Valley and on-going loan portfolio restructuring through attrition of specific asset types.

Net interest income for the second quarter increased by $1.93 million or 34.28% to $7.56 million at June 30, 2017 from $5.63 million at June 30, 2016.

Net income before taxes for the quarter ending June 30, 2017 was $3.79 million compared to $2.07 million at June 30, 2016. Provision for income taxes during the second quarter of 2017 was $1.52 million compared to $793.93 thousand for the second quarter of 2016.

Total consolidated assets increased by $98.08 million, or 14.84%, to $759.00 million at June 30, 2017 from $660.92 million at June 30, 2016. Loans receivable increased by $96.89 million or 17.25% to $658.51 million at June 30, 2017 from $561.62 million at June 30, 2016, while commitments, loans-in-process and standby letters of credit outstanding increased to $378.53 million as of June 30, 2017 compared to $218.25 million at June 30, 2016. The increase was the result of our continued focus on growing our lending operations in the lower Hudson Valley.

Total liabilities at June 30, 2017 were $646.18 million compared to $553.77 million at June 30, 2016, an increase of $92.41 million, or 16.69%. The increase in total liabilities was primarily due to a $99.81 million increase in deposits from $474.19 million at June 30, 2016 to $574.00 million at June 30, 2017. Federal Home Loan Bank advances decreased by $7.59 million to $62.87 million at the end of the second quarter of 2017, compared to $70.46 million at June 30, 2016.

Total stockholder’s equity increased by $5.66 million or 5.28% to $112.81 million at June 30, 2017 from $107.15 million at June 30, 2016. The increase is primarily a result of net income of $6.42 million for the twelve months ending June 30, 2017 partially offset by dividends paid.

Financial Condition and Operating results for June 30, 2017 compared to December 31, 2016:

Net interest income for the second quarter increased by $975.97 thousand or 14.89% to $7.56 million at June 30, 2017 from $6.58 million at December 31, 2016.

Net income before taxes for the quarter ended June 30, 2017 was $3.79 million compared to $2.69 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2016. Provision for income taxes during the second quarter of 2017 was $1.52 million compared to $1.06 million for the fourth quarter of 2016.

Total consolidated assets increased by $24.50 million, or 3.34%, to $759.00 million at June 30, 2017 from $734.50 million at December 31, 2016. Loans receivable increased by $28.60 million or 4.54% to $658.51 million at June 30, 2017 from $629.91 million at December 31, 2016, while commitments, loans-in-process and standby letters of credit outstanding increased to $378.53 million as of June 30, 2017 compared to $253.83 million at December 31, 2016.

Total liabilities at June 30, 2017 were $646.18 million compared to $625.05 million at December 31, 2016, an increase of $21.13 million, or 3.38%. The increase in total liabilities was due to a $28.65 million increase in deposits from $545.35 million at December 31, 2016 to $574.00 million at June 30, 2017 partially offset by a reduction of $7.38 million in Federal Home Loan Bank borrowings to $62.87 million at the end of the second quarter of 2017, compared to $70.25 million at December 31, 2016.

NorthEast Community Bancorp, Inc.’s total stockholder’s equity at June 30, 2017 is a strong 14.86% compared to 14.90% at December 31, 2016.

On April 15, 2017, the Bank closed its banking office located in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the deposits of the office were consolidated into the Bank’s Quincy, Massachusetts office. Based on the property’s central location, we are retaining the asset on our books and triple net leasing the property to a national car rental chain.
