CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High school students from across the country traveled to participate in the 2017 National Black MBA Association® (NBMBAA®) Leaders of Tomorrow® Leadership Summit® (LOT®). The summit which was held in Chicago, IL June 21 – 25, 2017, included the 16th Annual National Business Case Competition where students competed for a combined total of $30K in scholarship awards.
Sponsored by FedEx, Loyola University Quinlan School of Business, State Farm, and Starbucks as a culminating event for the Leaders of Tomorrow® program year, the NBMBAA® National Headquarters hosted local chapters at a 4-day youth leadership training event. The summit highlighted inspiring guest speakers, engaging leadership sessions, college and career tours and team building activities.
The highlight of the LOT® Summit was the annual National Business Case Competition which is designed to help participants develop real-world critical thinking and problem-solving skills by addressing a business case study. Teams of participants worked together to present their case on Fitbit to a panel of esteemed judge representing sponsored companies.
The business case competition grand prize winner of the $15,000 scholarship was awarded to the Central Florida LOT® Chapter, with Houston LOT® Chapter in second place winning a $10,000 scholarship and St. Louis LOT® Chapter in third place winning a $5,000 scholarship. Participating students represented over 20 cities, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Louisville, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham and Washington, DC where they are all active participants in the Leader of Tomorrow® programs operated by NBMBAA’s local chapters.
The National Black MBA Association® is one of the largest professional member-based organizations in the country, serving more than 9,000 members across 45 professional chapters. The organization’s programs, events and partnerships are designed to increase awareness and facilitate access to graduate management education programs and career opportunities in management fields. The NBMBAA® hosted the first Leaders of Tomorrow® conference in 1991 to mentor talented youth aspiring to leadership roles in professional fields. Since its inception, LOT® has evolved into a comprehensive programmatic approach for providing leadership development to young people. Today, the program is driven by a strong mentoring component across four areas: Leadership, Financial Literacy, College Preparation and Career Preparation. The program offers participants resources, knowledge and opportunities in the way of scholarships, internships and mentoring relationships.
