Fordham University School of Law Launches Legal English Institute

NEW YORK--()--Fordham University School of Law is launching the Legal English Institute (LEI), a new program tailored to help international lawyers and law students improve their legal English skills while learning the core foundations of U.S. law. Courses are offered on both a credit and non-credit basis. Classes will include Introduction to the U.S. Legal System and Law Study, Foundations of Private Law, Lawyering Skills, Working with Contracts, Communication Pragmatics for Lawyers and Legal Professional Identity, among others. The full-time program lasts a full semester, with the fall program beginning August 8, 2017, and continuing through mid-December. The spring program will start on January 2, 2018, and continue through mid-May.

Students seeking a degree from Fordham’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) program can also use the Legal English Institute as a cornerstone for LL.M. studies. By completing two semesters of graduate-level coursework after the LEI, students can earn an LL.M. degree in U.S. Law and one of the School’s seven other specializations.

The Legal English Institute welcomes participants who have studied law outside the United States. Participants in the program are eligible for an F-1 student visa.

Students who wish to study at the Legal English Institute can begin the program in either August or January. The registration deadline for the fall program is July 15, 2017.
