Huawei Selects OT’s eSIM To Connect HUAWEI WATCH 2

COLOMBES, France--()--OT (Oberthur Technologies), a leading global provider of embedded security software products and services, today announces that Huawei has chosen OT for the worldwide deployment of OT’s DakOTa v4.0, the first eSIM (embedded SIM) compliant with GSMA Phase II standards in their newly launched HUAWEI WATCH 2.

With eSIM support, major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) such as Huawei enable mobile network operators to extend their service to a broader range and a new generation of connected devices. Thanks to cellular connectivity users will get much wider coverage and much higher service quality compared with the WiFi or Bluetooth connections previously used for most secondary connected devices.

OT’s eSIM, produced in our SAS UP v7.0 certified factory in Vitré, France offers the most efficient, secure and transparent technology to serve these cellular connectivity needs for wearable devices and to deliver a seamless and fully digital experience to end-users. Thanks to this solution, end-users will be able to remotely download their preferred MNO subscriptions for their watch. These subscriptions are securely stored on interoperable subscription managers such as OT’s. Once their mobile subscription is activated on the watch, users will be able to call, use data services and receive notifications, even if their smartphone is switched off or out of reach.

OT is proud to have been selected by a premium device maker such as Huawei and to take part in this first GSMA phase II worldwide eSIM deployment. This is the recognition of OT’s investment in innovation and of the dedicated services provided to our OEM customers in China”, said Viken Gazarian, Deputy Managing Director of Connected Device Makers business at OT.

Huawei is delighted with this first collaboration with OT who has a true understanding of OEM needs in terms of service, support and industrial quality”, added Rico Zhang, Deputy Director, Wearables, Mobile Broadband and Home Device Business, Huawei Consumer BG.
