AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Board of Directors of the OpenStack Foundation elected Huawei as a Platinum Member and H3C as a Gold Member of the Foundation during its meeting on March 9, 2017.
Huawei has built OpenStack-powered telecoms, enterprise and government clouds around the world, and the company has contributed dozens of developers and community organizers to the open source project. Huawei has been a Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation since November 2013 and will now take the place of HPE as one of eight Platinum Members.
Huawei FusionSphere is an OpenStack Powered cloud OS that enables OpenStack-based private, public and NFV clouds. Companies Huawei is working with include Dongfeng Motors, a large automotive manufacturer in China, and Deutsche Telekom, whose Open Telekom Cloud is based on Huawei FusionSphere.
Zheng Yelai, president, IT Product Line at Huawei said, “Huawei started its OpenStack journey in 2012 and has been consistently increasing its contribution to OpenStack with more focus and passion ever since. Our goal is to make OpenStack a huge success, and to build the OpenStack that truly brings value to our customers. We are honored to be selected as a Platinum member and will continue to demonstrate our leadership and commitment in developing OpenStack and its ecosystem.”
The Board also approved New H3C Technologies Co., Limited, as the newest Gold Member. H3C is a provider of IT solutions. In the past few years, H3C has played a role in more than 200 OpenStack deployments in China, including 40 enterprise clouds, 110 government clouds (national, provincial and municipal) and 30 education clouds. Large-scale customers include the China National Offshore Company, an oil & gas company with more than 20 data centers across Asia, America, Africa and Australia; the Henan Province Health Multi-Region Cloud Platform covering 18 cities; and the Sichuan Province Unified Government Cloud, a hybrid cloud datacenter providing services for all government departments.
Wu Jian, vice president of H3C and chief manager of the Cloud Product Line, said, “It’s a great honor for H3C to become an OpenStack gold member, and we are appreciative of the board’s final decision. Title comes with responsibility. We will continue to contribute more to the community in the future, build more large scale clouds with our customers, push OpenStack forward more in China and build a stronger ecosystem with OpenStack. Anyway, the reason we join in is to become not only more influential, but also more innovative. Let’s get started, and make a difference!”
The OpenStack Foundation Board evaluates new potential members based on their strategic commitment to OpenStack and contributions to the community, as well as diversity of company size, location and industry.
“OpenStack is truly a global community, with nearly 650 companies supporting the project in 187 countries,” said Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenStack Foundation. “The investment and commitment of Huawei and H3C underscores the global growth and evolution of OpenStack, with projects of massive scale serving millions of end users worldwide.”
