Innovation Project 2017 Welcomes JD Vance

Author of “Hillbilly Elegy” Will Explore How to Bring Innovation to the Seventy-Five Percent Who May Feel the American Dream Is Not Theirs to Share

BOSTON--()--JD Vance, author of Hillbilly Elegy A Memoir of A Family and Culture in Crisis, brings what has been termed his “personal polemic” to Innovation Project 2017 delegates in his fireside chat with Walmart Services Senior Vice President Daniel Eckert. They will explore what it means to bring innovation to the masses. Vance, an Ivy league graduate with a Yale law degree, grew up in Appalachia and has become a spokesperson for the disenfranchised white working class of the Rust belt who recently propelled Donald Trump into the presidency. Vance’s discussion with Eckert will explore the impact of this populist movement to payments innovation and the collective responsibility to make innovations in payments and commerce accessible to everyone.

Innovation Project convenes on March 15-16. This is the fifth annual Innovation Project, an event that gathers the most influential players in payments, commerce, and retail for two days of closed door, off-the-record conversations on the campus of Harvard University.* After a 2016 that saw a number of strategic moves made by many of the largest players in the payments and commerce space, this year’s theme will focus on the impact of these big bets on their future and the future of the industry.

A hallmark of the Innovation Project is the mix of perceptions and insights that surface when industry leaders and public intellectuals meet on stage. Conversations like the one with JD Vance will help stretch the way attendees think about many topics – including how to bring innovation to the 75 percent of Americans who may not always feel that these changes are for them. The full list of speakers and the agenda can be found at the Innovation Project web site.
