TOLEDO, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Owens Corning (NYSE: OC) received asthma & allergy friendly® certification for its Pure Safety™ high performance insulation – the building products industry’s first product to earn the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). Pure Safety™ insulation has up to 65 percent less dust than comparable insulation and is mold and mildew resistant.
In 2006, the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program was created by top medical experts and AAFA to empower consumers to make informed purchase decisions when choosing allergen-avoidance products. The program independently tests and identifies consumer products that are more suitable for those living with asthma and allergies using The Synthetic Home Insulation Products Standard, which addresses a product’s effect on indoor air quality and capacity to resist mold growth.
“Owens Corning now joins a select group of manufacturers that are focused on product innovation to address people’s exposure to allergens and irritants in their homes,” said Julian Francis, president of insulation, Owens Corning. “We saw an opportunity to address the needs of over 70 million people with asthma and allergies. Caring about indoor air quality is just one way Owens Corning is committed to leveraging our building science expertise and insulation systems to create better, more sustainable, more comfortable homes.”
Pure Safety™ is a high performance mineral fiber insulation that is UL GREENGUARD GOLD Certified for its low volatile organic compounds emissions and is UL Validated Formaldehyde Free. Pure Safety™ high performance insulation is a bio-based product and meets USDA BioPreferred® guidelines and achieves a certified minimum average recycled content of 65 percent by SCS Global Services.
