NEW YORK--()--Driven by the same commitment to fearless, adversarial journalism and commentary that Jeremy Scahill and The Intercept have built their reputation on, The Intercept and First Look Media today announced the launch of Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill. The new weekly podcast, hosted by Scahill, debuts tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25th, and will be distributed by the Panoply podcast network. It is also available for download on all major podcast platforms including iTunes, Google Play and Spotify here.

Each week Scahill, a veteran reporter and best-selling author, will deconstruct the news and break open preconceptions about politics, war, government and the media. No topic is off limits. Fueled by stories demanding attention and further analysis, the podcast will also feature roundtable discussions and interviews with noted artists, thinkers, newsmakers and journalists who have a point of view and are not afraid to challenge the status quo.

“Holding those in power accountable – no matter who they are – has always been our mission,” said Scahill. “With Intercepted, we’ll take on a Trump Administration that has already made it clear it intends to wage war against a free press. That, combined with his ambitious extremist agenda to make torture great again, target Muslims, conduct mass deportations and roll back the clock on women’s rights to the 1800s, makes our work as journalists more urgent than ever.”

The first, post-Trump inauguration episode will feature an interview with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh on Trump and the CIA, his concerns about Trump’s team controlling the vast U.S. surveillance state and how journalists should confront the new “authoritarian” president. Hersh also explains why he calls Trump a “circuit breaker” for some Washington political elites.

The first episode will also include a roundtable discussion on the Trump Administration, the media and the future of the Democratic Party with Intercept co-founder Glenn Greenwald and its Editor-in-Chief, Betsy Reed. Author and activist Naomi Klein also sends in an audio post card from the Women’s March.

Betsy Reed added, “Intercepted will amplify the stories we cover at The Intercept, confronting the crucial issues of the moment, from national security to civil liberties, foreign policy to surveillance, at a time of enormous and perilous change in our political environment.”

The original music for Intercepted was produced by renowned visual and audio artist DJ Spooky. Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill is Executive Produced by Jeremy Scahill and Leital Molad. First Look Media’s EVP of Programming & Content Adam Pincus is Executive-in-Charge and Jack D’Isidoro is producer.
