Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Indiana Announces Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan Medicaid Contract Renewal

Four-year contract will provide continued support for Medicaid members and those with specialized health-care needs

INDIANAPOLIS--()--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced the renewal of its Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) Medicaid contract agreement with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). The renewed contract will ensure Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid members have continued access to a variety of high quality, affordable health care benefits, including pharmacy and dental coverage.

"At Anthem, we are committed to providing our members with premiere services and support and we believe this contract renewal is another step towards us achieving that promise to the consumer,” said Kristen Metzger, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid Plan president. “We look forward to our continued partnership with the State and providing much needed health care services to Hoosiers.”

As a part of the contract, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid beneficiaries will continue receiving risk-based managed care services. Members will also be eligible to enroll in incentive programs designed to help improve health outcomes and increase member responsibility, provider participation, and innovative care.

The renewed FSSA contract became effective January 1, 2017. It is a four-year contract and the state of Indiana has the option to approve two one-year extensions for a maximum of six years.

Anthem BlueCross BlueShield works with the state of Indiana to offer the Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) health insurance programs for 372,000 Medicaid beneficiaries. HHW serves low-income families, pregnant women and children up to age 19. HIP covers residents age 19 through 64 including low-income families. Anthem has administered benefits and services for HHW since 2007 and HIP since 2008.

About Hoosier Healthwise

Hoosier Healthwise is a health insurance program for Indiana children, pregnant women, and low income parents/caretakers. Hoosier Healthwise covers doctor visits, prescription drugs, mental health care, dental care, hospitalizations, surgeries, and family planning at little or no cost to the member or the member's family. About HIP 2.0

The Healthy Indiana Plan is a health-insurance program for qualified adults. The plan is offered by the State of Indiana. It pays for medical costs for members and could even provide vision and dental coverage. It also rewards members for taking better care of their health. The plan covers Hoosiers ages 19 to 64 who meet specific income levels. HIP 2.0 includes options for a Plus Plan as well as a Basic Plan.
