IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) announced today that the 5th annual World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit has sold out. On February 3rd for the 5th time, leaders from the hospital, healthcare, technology, public policy, and patient advocacy communities will gather, to discuss solutions to the leading challenges that cause preventable patient death in hospitals.
During the Summit, the PSMF will announce their newly updated Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS) on all 13 challenges including the three safety topics identified at the PSMF’s midyear meeting: Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), Mental Health, and Pediatric Adverse Drug Events. Panel moderators in each of these respective fields will review high-level checklists of processes that can be implemented now to improve patient safety. The Patient Safety Movement will also present the 2016 Humanitarian Awards as well as Patient Safety Innovation Awards. Humanitarian Awards are presented to outstanding individuals who have significantly advanced patient safety in the last year. In addition, Patient Safety Innovation Awards along with prizes totaling $85,000 for process or product innovations that will make significant strides toward eliminating preventable deaths in hospitals will be announced.
At the last Summit, the Foundation announced that 1,624 healthcare organizations had made public commitments to attain the PSMF’s goal of zero preventable patient deaths by the year 2020 and reported that their commitments saved 24,632 lives in 2015. In addition, more than 45 health technology companies had made a public pledge to share their data in the pursuit of good business practices and patient safety.
On Friday, February 3rd, the Foundation will announce an update on healthcare organization commitments, lives saved through those commitments and the latest number of healthcare technology companies to have signed the Open Data Pledges.
