ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Elavon, a leading global payments provider and subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB), and Systems Innovators (SI), a leading enterprise revenue management and centralized cashiering provider, have teamed up with government agencies to deploy a payment system that helps protect citizens’ information, helps prevent fraud and provides industry-compliant EMV technology.
Jeff Sumner, executive vice president of System Innovators, said, “We are focused on delivering the most trusted central cashiering and revenue management systems for U.S. governments and utilities. Partnering with Elavon on this certified EMV product designed specifically for those entities, helps them accept EMV and chip card payments, while mitigating the risk of credit card fraud.”
High-profile government data breaches in recent years have underscored the need for secure government payment processing, with government agencies seeking ways to offer citizens a one-stop-shop with both data protection and flexibility in payment acceptance options.
Government agencies now using the Elavon-SI system include the cities of Anaheim, California, and St. Louis, Missouri. Newport News, Virginia, and Hennepin County in Minnesota will migrate to the Elavon-SI solution in 2017.
“The City of Anaheim is very excited to go live with the Elavon-SI integrated solution. It will enable the city to accept and securely process EMV chip credit card transactions while reducing credit card fraud and security breaches. It’s a win-win solution for the city and our citizens,” said Suzzette Areyan Hemingway, treasury administrator for the City of Anaheim.
The Elavon-SI government-focused EMV (Europay, Mastercard and VISA) chip credit card payment processing system combines SI’s centralized cashiering and revenue management software, iNovah, with Elavon’s Simplify® -- an EMV-certified solution that enhances security by adding point-to-point encryption, also known as P2PE, and tokenization to isolate sensitive payment card data from the point-of-sale (POS), where it is most vulnerable.
“Customer confidence is our highest priority when people come to our office to pay their taxes and utility bills. The Elavon-SI system offers a convenient and easy way to pay, while ensuring that their data is secure and protected,” said City of St. Louis Collector of Revenue Gregory F.X. Daly. “As the Collector of Revenue, we could not ask for a more seamless cashiering and revenue management system.”
The system eliminates the need for government employees to enter credit card payments manually into their revenue management systems and provides a secure way to authorize payments from a variety of sources, from chip cards to mobile payments, like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
Ian Drysdale, Elavon executive vice president and head of business development, said, “It’s more imperative than ever for government agencies to protect themselves from fraud vulnerabilities. We’re excited that government entities are now using Elavon-SI’s system to help keep their citizens’ payment card data safe and secure.”
