MEDZED FORMS CLINICAL ADVISORY BOARD TO AID IN ADVANCING COMPANY’S POSITION IN DELIVERY OF LONGITUDINAL IN-HOME CARE
Industry Experts Comprise Newly Created Board to Enhance Company’s Market Position
MedZed, a provider of next-generation house calls delivered by a network of skilled medical professionals using its proprietary telehealth technology, announced today the formation of its Clinical Advisory Board. The Board was put in place to help the company further develop strategy, trial new clinical and business concepts and expand pertinent industry relationships.
MedZed’s Clinical Advisory Board will be comprised of veteran industry experts who share an interest in the Company’s vision for caring for patients where they live via innovative telemedicine-enabled home care models. MedZed, which focuses on providing advanced telemedicine-based healthcare services to the frailest and sickest members of the population who have difficulty getting reliable and integrated care through the current delivery system, offers a scalable, remote home-care model for high-risk patients. The program offerings continue to expand by embracing customer desires, patient health needs, and technologic capabilities.
"Each new Advisory Board member brings deep industry knowledge and experience to their roles. The Board will help MedZed develop novel clinical programs to aid in caring for our patients, pioneer new ways to serve our clients and propose strategies to forge partnerships within the communities we serve,” noted Neil A. Solomon, M.D., Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at MedZed.
The individuals that have joined MedZed’s Clinical Advisory Board include:
- Mark Smith, MD - Co-chair of the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network’s Guiding Committee and founding Advisory Board member at Health Velocity Capital. San Francisco-based Dr. Smith is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Commonwealth Fund and the Archstone Foundation. He has more than two decades of expertise in value-based care delivery and population health.
- Rishi Manchanda, MD - Author of the Upstream Doctors, a book in which he examines how health begins at home and in the workplace. He also is president and founder of Health Begins, a social network that empowers clinicians to improve health where it begins—in patients’ home and work environments, and Chief Medical Officer for a self-insured employer, where he is building high-risk clinics for farm workers in the Central Valley of California. He serves on the board of the National Physicians Alliance, as well as on the board of Physicians for Social Responsibility in Los Angeles.
- Bart Wald, MD - Most recently served as Physician Chief Executive of Los Angeles-based Providence Health and Services of California, where he led the efforts to develop, consolidate and integrate its physician groups and foundations. He also has served as Medical Director for DaVita-HealthCare Partners Medical Group, Chief Medical Officer of UniMed Physician Services and regional medical director for Health Net of California. He possesses extensive experience in managed care, physician group leadership, population health, change management, incentive programs and healthcare policy.

She directs Tideswell at UCSF, serves as Medical Director of Clinical Programs in the Office of Population Health and Accountable Care, and practices geriatric and palliative medicine. Throughout her career, Dr. Ritchie has created collaborative models of care in geriatrics and palliative care aimed at improving the lives of patients with multiple chronic conditions and serious illness. She has a keen knowledge of caring for frail elders, training clinicians, engaging in applied clinical research and designing team-based care programs.
- Jeffery LeBenger, MD, FACS - Chairman of the Board and CEO of Summit Medical Group, a large multi-specialty physician group in Berkeley Heights, N.J. Under Dr. LeBenger’s leadership, in 2014, Summit Medical Group also created Summit Health Management, a management and population health services company. Dr. LeBenger has expansive knowledge of delivery systems and their processes for transitioning to value-based care payment models.
Scott Schnell, MedZed’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, explains: “We founded MedZed with a mission to address the needs of high-risk patients who cannot easily visit their medical providers, thereby making them more prone to both frequent emergency room visits and hospital readmissions. As we continue to rapidly grow and position MedZed as a leader in managing high-risk patients through our innovative telehealth solution, we will look to the sage advice and extensive experience of the members of our Clinical Advisory Board for direction and guidance. We look forward to contributions each of these seasoned experts will make in their roles on our new Board, and thank them for their willingness to assist us in advancing telehealth as a better and more cost-effective option within the healthcare system.”
