Dotfuscator® Community Edition Expanded to Include Advanced Application and Data Protection Controls

Visual Studio 2017 users have, for the first time, a no-fee option to prevent unauthorized application and data tampering

NEW YORK--()--Microsoft Connect() — Available with Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, Dotfuscator Community Edition (CE) includes, for the first time, the ability to inject real-time detection, defense, and notification of unauthorized debugger hacking against production applications.

“The anti-debugging and tamper functionality was first released in September inside Dotfuscator Professional, the commercial version of Dotfuscator,” said Gabriel Torok, CEO of PreEmptive Solutions. “With the release of Dotfuscator CE 2017, every Visual Studio 2017 user has access to these powerful application and data security controls.”

Dotfuscator Community Edition is included at no cost to licensed Visual Studio 2017 users for personal use, research and testing under licensing terms that are modeled after Microsoft’s own Community Edition of Visual Studio.

“Development velocity is accelerating and operations are achieving new automation milestones on an almost daily basis,” Torok continued. “Application controls, like Dotfuscator’s debugger hacking defense, must keep pace to effectively prevent operational disruption, data loss, and Intellectual Property and trade secret theft.”

In Symantec’s 2016 Internet Security Threat Report, application security software to better manage the application security lifecycle was cited as a “critical control priority” to mitigate 9 out of 10 of today’s top cyber risks.1

A recent survey of over 200 development organizations validated the importance of effective application risk management. 58% reported making sustained investments in application security and 2 out of 3 of those organizations identified unauthorized use of a debugger on a production application as a material vulnerability.2

The Dotfuscator CE’s debugger-hacking-defense capabilities can be injected with no coding required allowing an application to detect, defend, and report on unauthorized use of a debugger in production. Further, the alerts can be published directly into Microsoft’s Application Insights and Hockey App and even Twitter can be used to provide incident alerts.

“The real-time defense capabilities now available inside Dotfuscator CE are a powerful complement to the existing obfuscation and tamper defense capabilities,” said Sebastian Holst, CSO PreEmptive Solutions. “For the first time, reliable and resilient defenses can be injected in an automated and scalable fashion – and often without any development effort or licensing fees for the Visual Studio development organization.”
