GREENVILLE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At least for one day, 9Round, the world’s fastest-growing kickboxing gym franchise with over 400 locations in 40 states and nine countries, kicked breast cancer to the curb.
On October 13, 2016, 9Round hosted its 5th Annual Kick Event, during which fitness and kickboxing enthusiasts had a unique opportunity to help raise money for the support of breast cancer awareness. 9Round donated one penny for every kick recorded throughout the day at more than 250 of its gyms throughout the United States and Canada.
By the end of the day, 17,962,182 kicks were recorded, raising $179,621.82 to advance treatment and laboratory research for breast cancer, nearly matching the total of the four previous years combined.
“All of us know somebody who has or has had cancer. We’re all touched by this, but by coming in and doing this small thing you’re making a difference. You’re making this important, at least for one day,” said 9Round co-founder Shannon Hudson. “Even if you never think about it again, it was important for those 30 minutes. We are extremely grateful for all those who have continued to make this event a tremendous success.”
Since launching the annual event in 2012, 9Round’s Kick Event has recorded nearly 37 million kicks and raised close to $370,000.
“We have several members in our gym who are survivors. It just touches so many people’s lives,” said Vlasta Duffy, owner of the 9Round gym in Scottsdale, Arizona, who is also a breast cancer survivor. “For us to be able to be a part of something so much bigger than us, so that our neighbors know that what they’re doing is helping their neighbors in their community, that’s really important to us.”
