MCE Selects ZGlobal Inc. to Provide Energy Scheduling and Portfolio Optimization Services

FOLSOM, Calif.--()--ZGlobal Inc. Power Engineering and Energy Solutions (“ZGlobal”) announced that it has been selected through a competitive solicitation to provide MCE with Energy Scheduling and Portfolio Optimization services. “We are extremely excited to be working with MCE and look forward to assisting them in their efforts to provide their customers with stable and competitive rates,” stated Kevin Coffee, Vice President of Electric Operations at ZGlobal.

Effective October 1st, 2016, ZGlobal will begin providing MCE with a full range of Energy services:

  • 24x7 energy scheduling and operations for California ISO and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) interchanges,
  • Portfolio management services for its capacity, power supply and load resources, including load forecasting services, counterparty checkouts, Resource Adequacy and Variable Energy Resource (VER) performance monitoring and Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) optimization and analysis, and
  • Financial clearing of California ISO invoices and shadow settlements of CAISO charges.

Full transition of all Scheduling Coordination services is expected by December 2017.

MCE is California’s first operational Community Choice Aggregator and began serving customers in May of 2010 with the goal of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of the local member communities it serves by offering more renewable energy.

ZGlobal offers a wide range of services in the energy sector, including round-the-clock scheduling and operation services and reliability/compliance services for several large solar, geothermal, and biomass facilities and utilities throughout the western United States. ZGlobal’s annual transaction value is expected to exceed $263 Million in 2016 for its management over 1740 MW of generating assets in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Adding MCE’s portfolio to ZGlobal energy management will increase its volume to nearly 1600 MW of peak supply and demand.

ZGlobal was formed in 2005 and is staffed by veterans from the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) as well as various western utilities. The group is led by Ziad Alaywan P.E., who was Manager of PG&E real time operations, one of the first employees that led the rapid implementation and operation of the CAISO in 1998 and CAISO Managing Director of Grid and Market Operation until 2004. State Assembly Bill 117 was passed in 2002 to establish California’s Community Choice Aggregation, which offers an opportunity for Californians to choose their electric provider and the source of their electricity. MCE was California’s first Community Choice Aggregation program. Sonoma Clean Power was California’s second Community Choice Aggregation program.
