Lean for Life® by Lindora Clinic Partners with Safeway to Offer First Medically Based Weight Loss Clinics in California Grocery Stores

Clinics Expand to Five Safeway Stores throughout the Bay Area, Offer Personal Food Coaches

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Lean for Life® by Lindora Clinic, a national leader in the medical weight loss arena since 1971, and Safeway, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the U.S., are partnering to provide a convenient way for the Bay Area community to transform their lives through a medically based and customized weight management system. Five Safeway grocery stores in Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Menlo Park and San Jose are opening Lean for Life by Lindora Clinics on Oct. 10.

Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic, headquartered in Costa Mesa, Calif., and already operating more than 35 clinics throughout Southern California, will become the first medically based weight loss clinic to provide services within California grocery stores. These 400- to 500-square-foot clinics will be adjacent to Safeway’s in-store pharmacies. In addition to clinicians who work one-on-one with patients, these new clinics will feature Lean for Life food coaches, who will show clients how to make healthier food choices and develop better eating habits.

“We’re proud to partner with Safeway and expand our clinics into its Bay Area stores to better serve this community, while furthering overall convenience and access to weight loss tools – including our team of medical providers, coaches and nurses,” said Cynthia Stamper Graff, chief science and programs officer, Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic. “For 45 years, we’ve helped people in Southern California lose weight, reclaim their health and look and feel their best. We look forward to providing Northern California with the structure, support and personal connection that works.”

With expertise gained from 15 million patient visits and a comprehensive clinic program rooted in science and research, Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic provides people with the support they need to break the diet cycle once and for all by outsmarting their biology to get their brain, body and gut working together – instead of against each other.

“We’re committed to becoming a health and wellness destination for our customers – and our collaboration with Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic supplies this health-conscious community a resource not previously available in the Bay Area,” said Mark Panzer, senior vice president, pharmacy, health & wellness, Safeway. “The Lean for Life food coaches will provide a unique, practical service, showing patients how they can apply the principles they learn in the program to make smarter, healthier shopping choices.”

To celebrate the expansion and openings, Lean for Life is offering customers at the new clinic locations the opportunity to win free in-clinic programs, valued at more than $1,000, during launch week, Oct. 10 – 14. Those who stop by any of the five clinics for a free consultation will be entered into the daily raffle. One winner from each Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic in the Safeway locations will be selected every day during launch week.

The Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic program is built upon providing patients with the tools to not only lose weight, but also transform their lives from the inside out and improve their health. The program also uses a customized approach to help patients learn healthy habits to manage risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes. As patients lose weight, they normalize blood sugar, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and reduce their risk for inflammation.

The program stresses a “Nourish. Move. Breathe.” philosophy that combines nutritional guidelines, menu plans, and moderate exercise with balance and well-being techniques to teach patients to become Lean for Life. Its success is due to a clinically based, four-phase approach that allows for rapid weight loss, one-on-one support from a team of medical providers, nurses, and coaches, and a maintenance program that provides patients with the eating and coping skills necessary for long-term success.
