Galvanize Launches Data Science for Executives, A Program to Help Enterprises Understand and Build Data Capacity

Program will analyze corporate data assets, train executives about data use and assist in the design and implementation of data strategies to help maximize value

NEW YORK--()--Galvanize, the dynamic learning community for technology, and IBM today announced a new agreement to offer an assessment, analysis and training element for Galvanize’s Data Science for Executives program. Data Science for Executives aims to empower corporations to better understand, use and maximize the value of their data.

The program will support IBM’s DataFirst Method, a methodology that provides the strategy, expertise and game plan to help ensure enterprise customers’ succeed on their journey to become a data-driven business. Through the collaboration, Data Science for Executives will focus on helping to build IBM’s clients’ data strategy and capacity, which involves an understanding of both data science and data engineering.

Data Science for Executives will include a three-step data review and strategy process to include:

  • Assessment - data engineers and experts from IBM and Galvanize will review a participating company’s existing data practice including processes, technologies and people.
  • Report – based on the review of existing practices and assets, IBM and Galvanize data experts will compile and present a custom report on the state of the company’s data as well as provide recommendations on ways to improve its use and efficiency.
  • Workshop – company executives will engage in a 2-day training with Galvanize to grow their awareness and understanding of data opportunities and challenges and begin to define a corporate data strategy.

The new Data Science for Executives program will include elements of both data science, analyzing, sorting and growing reliable data, and data engineering which involves using that data in ways to create or refine products, strategies or business functions. Giving business leaders an understanding of both elements is key to developing and running a successful business data strategy.

“Today, every company is a software company and that requires building data capacity, having a strategy as well as the skilled workforce to implement it,” said Galvanize co-founder and CEO Jim Deters. “We train data experts for some of the leading companies who are now using the power of data to serve their customers and design and market their products in brand new ways and we’re excited to help others do the same things.”

“Every company is at a different stage when it comes to data. Some understand what data exists and how to use it while others are just starting out,” said Ritika Gunnar, Vice President of Offering Management, IBM Analytics. “In order to help clients evolve into the cognitive era, we are working with Galvanize to bring a new era of executive who understand the importance of data engineering and data science in their companies.”
