WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Palmetto Health, the largest integrated health care system in the South Carolina Midlands region, has selected Glytec’s eGlycemic Management System®, or eGMS®, to support quality of care for patients with diabetes.
The cloud-hosted eGMS® software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution will be used enterprise-wide, across all of Palmetto Health’s clinical disciplines. “Palmetto Health selected the Glytec system because they feel it is well aligned with their patient care and quality initiatives,” says Glytec’s Chief Medical Officer, Andrew S. Rhinehart, MD, FACP, FACE, CDE, BC-ADM, CDTC. “The Glytec system has the potential to positively impact patient populations served under their ACO and value-based programs.”
Users will access the eGMS® directly from Palmetto Health’s Cerner Millenium system via SmartClick®, which allows for seamless EMR integration, including single sign-on.
The eGMS® centers on Glucommander™, an FDA-cleared Class II medical device for real-time intravenous and subcutaneous insulin dosing. Computerized, evidence-based algorithms ensure that dosing recommendations produced by Glucommander™ align with -- and continually adjust to -- each patient’s unique insulin sensitivities.
Through continuous, facility-wide surveillance and analysis of blood glucose levels, the eGMS® module, GlucoSurvelliance®, will identify and flag potential candidates for insulin therapy. Given 30-40% of hospitalized patients require insulin therapy, GlucoSurvelliance® will help ensure that clinical care teams throughout Palmetto Health perform patient evaluations and start treatments in a timely manner. GlucoSurvelliance® will interface directly with the laboratory information system (LIS).
Additionally, the analytics and reporting capabilities of the eGMS® module, GlucoMetrics®, will offer clinicians, administrators and executives a means to measure and monitor key performance indicators and other metrics.
Glytec’s clinical services organization will work with Palmetto Health to establish best practices and standards of care for glycemic management, and to optimize the eGMS® around targeted outcomes. Glytec’s Vice President of Clinical Practice, Melanie Mabrey, DNP, ACNP-BC, BC-ADM, CDTC, FAANP, notes, “Managing patients’ glucose levels can be challenging for clinical care teams, especially with limited endocrinology resources. With the Glytec system, diabetes educators and nurses will have greater confidence in treating patients on insulin therapy, and will be more productive.”
About Glytec
As a leading innovator in the care of patients with diabetes, Glytec is pioneering the way hospitals and health systems use technology to ensure optimal glucose control and prevent the associated frequency, risks and costs of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. The company, founded in 2006, has developed the industry’s first comprehensive eGlycemic Management System®, or eGMS®, which centers on the only FDA-cleared solution for insulin dosing able to support personalized, real-time intravenous and subcutaneous therapy for adult and pediatric populations across the entire care continuum. The solution seamlessly integrates with EMR systems for streamlined use in all inpatient and outpatient settings, including the emergency department. It also integrates with connected devices for at-home care managed through telehealth, population health and other value-based programs. The eGMS® employs a cloud-hosted software-as-as-service (SaaS) delivery model, allowing for rapid implementation and 24/7 access. The efficacy of the eGMS®, including its ability to substantively improve clinical and financial outcomes, has been validated by more than 55 published studies. Results have included dramatic reductions in A1c levels as well as lengths of stay and readmissions. Glytec currently holds five U.S. patents and has more than 30 U.S. and international patents pending. The company has offices in Waltham, Massachusetts and Greenville, South Carolina.
