Cylance & Inspire Sports to Sponsor “Project Speed”

IRVINE, Calif.--()--Cylance Inc., the company that is revolutionizing cybersecurity with products and services that use artificial intelligence to proactively prevent, rather than just reactively detect advanced persistent threats and malware, and Inspire Sports, LLC. today announced that they have established a sponsorship with Project Speed to be known as Project Speed Powered by Cylance.

The mission of Project Speed Powered by Cylance is to support the development of groundbreaking initiatives in cycling at extreme speeds. As early as the 1870s, cyclists began pushing the limits of high-wheel “Penny Farthings” on banked tracks. Early attempts at speed records were accomplished by drafting or “pacing” behind teams of powerful racers using tandem and triplet bicycles. The advent of the motorcycle, automobile and airplane accelerated the pursuit of the bicycle-powered speed records. Now in 2016, Project Speed Powered by Cylance has been created to break a world record.

On September 10-13, 2016, former national criterium cycling champion Denise Mueller will attempt to break the men’s speed record of 167 miles per hour, set the first women’s record, and simultaneously set the world record. Her coach, John Howard, a three-time Olympian and member of the US Cycling Hall of Fame, approached Denise about the idea of breaking the record he set 30 years ago.

Using a motorpacing dragster to tow her highly specialized bicycle, Mueller will let the dragster help push a very high, heavy gear up to speed, and then deliver draft and help stabilize her when she unhooks from it just before reaching 100 miles per hour. Mueller says, “There is a fine line between living as if this is your last day on earth, and planning for your future. I choose to dance, sing and play on that fine line and live without regrets.”

“Denise is the perfect example of an innovator who wants to set new records, something we understand and want to support at Cylance,” said Stuart McClure, president and CEO at Cylance Inc. “We’re proud to partner with Project Speed to help set a new standard in paced cycling.”

“I am beyond excited to be the first female to ever to set a paced bicycle land speed record with our pace car driver, Shea Holbrook,” Mueller said. “I am honored to follow in the steps of my coach and mentor, John Howard, who held the men's record in 1985 at 152mph. We are thrilled to share this journey with the support of Cylance as we make our mark in history.”
