FansUnite Acquired by Canada’s Fantasy 6 Sports

Spring 2016 graduate of Boulder-based Boomtown accelerator acquired for $2 million

BOULDER, Colo.--()--FansUnite, a social sports data company that has a unique approach, scope and reach, is being acquired by Fantasy 6 Sports of Canada for $2 million, pending requisite regulatory approvals. Additional details of the transaction were not released.

Created by sports fans with other sports fans in mind, FansUnite has constructed a community where users are able to place fantasy wagers with free virtual currency. Founded by Darius Eghdami, Duncan McIntyre and Nicolas Shuster, the company fine-tuned their business model during the Spring 2016 Boomtown session and now serves more than 100,000 loyal members who play their innovative games, contests and analytics in more than 16 major sports. FansUnite serves as a complementary platform for the world's largest sportsbooks, including Pinnacle Sports, bet365 and William Hill, as well as for fantasy sports platforms such as DraftKings and FanDuel.

Fantasy 6 is a Vancouver-based Canadian Securities Exchange-traded company that produces games, contests and other experiences for fans around the world. The company offers contests across multiple professional sports leagues and produces interactive fan engagement platforms for corporations, media, broadcasters and not-for-profits.

"We're excited and ready to continue the rapid growth we've enjoyed on the strength of our unique fan-based approach to sports data," said FansUnite CEO Darius Eghdami. "We see this as the next logical step in our growth and development, especially given the opportunity to leverage the core competencies of Fantasy 6 to acquire new members, create more opportunities for existing members and significantly grow our revenues. We’re confident we'll be exposed to a whole new world of opportunities and that our social community will thrive as part of Fantasy 6,” he added.

Boomtown, a startup accelerator which nurtures selected startups through a 12-week mentoring program, provided mentorship and guidance during their Spring 2016 session.

“It is always rewarding when a hard-working, well-deserving Boomtown team — like FansUnite — is able to have a successful exit, especially so soon after completing the program,” said Boomtown Executive Director Toby Krout.

FansUnite complements not only the world’s largest sportsbooks, but also fantasy sports platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel. The acquisition of FansUnite is a natural fit as a portion of Fantasy 6’s global fan engagement strategy.
