NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CureDuchenne is pleased to announce that on this World Duchenne Awareness Day, the organization has received one of the sought-after STRIVE Awards (Strategies to Realize Innovation, Vision and Empowerment), created by PTC Therapeutics, Inc. to aid nonprofit organizations committed to serving the Duchenne muscular dystrophy community.

The STRIVE Awards recognize the vital role patient advocacy groups play in improving the lives of individuals affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and grants are awarded to facilitate unique, inventive ideas or programs that support patients and families within the Duchenne community.
Recognizing its potential to greatly benefit people with Duchenne, the STRIVE Awards will support CureDuchenne’s program to launch a Virtual Durable Medical Equipment Expo. This innovative, interactive education and networking website will enable caregivers and family members to access up-to-date, unbiased information and reviews on a wide range of mobility equipment that could help keep their loved ones mobile and active longer.
Award entries were received from 26 organizations across 15 countries. An independent panel of external experts with knowledge in rare diseases, patient advocacy and funding initiatives judged entries for feasibility, creativity, budget, impact and sustainability. CureDuchenne was one of four organizations to receive the Award, with judges commending the “collaborative and innovative” nature of the winning applications.
CureDuchenne was founded in 2003 with a focus on saving the lives of those with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that affects more than 300,000 children and young adults worldwide. With support from CureDuchenne, nine research projects have advanced to human clinical trials. CureDuchenne also brings physical therapy and standard of care to local communities around the country through its CureDuchenne Cares program.
