LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Technavio has announced the top five leading vendors in their recent global graphite electrodes market report until 2020. This research report also lists five other prominent vendors that are expected to impact the market during the forecast period.
Globally, the electric arc furnace (EAF) steel production was 405.94 million metric tons in 2015, representing 25% of the total world’s steel production. The EAF steel production capacity utilization rate follows the trend of overall steel industry. However, the use of blast furnace for steel production has increased, as coal and iron ore prices have declined faster than the price of scrap steel metal.
Competitive vendor landscape
According to the report, the global graphite electrode market is highly competitive with the presence of several global and regional vendors. There is high competition among vendors, which has resulted in lowered prices and anti-dumping duty act in WTO member countries. On the contrary, the demand for graphite electrode has increased over the few years, leading to increased usage in EAF for steel scrap and metal melting processes. This has further intensified the competition among the vendors.
“The market vendors faced a threat from Chinese graphite electrode producers that were exporting products at relatively lower rates. Increasing export will influence margins for domestic and local vendors. However, the implementation of anti-dumping duty and the scarcity of raw materials for graphite electrodes will impact the steel melting industry for steel production,” says Chandrakumar Badala Jaganathan, a lead metals and minerals research analyst from Technavio.
