SEA Blue, Chicago’s Largest Prostate Cancer Walk & Run, Set for 9/11

12th Year of Raising Funds and Awareness Includes First Responders & Baseball Legend

CHICAGO--()--Registration is open for the 12th Annual SEA Blue Chicago Prostate Cancer Walk & Run at www.seablueprostatewalk.org. “SEA” represents the Support, Education & Advocacy that the event helps to provide to the prostate cancer community. Proceeds go to help fund the work of Us TOO International (www.ustoo.org), a nonprofit that provides educational resources and support services to the prostate cancer community at no charge.

SEA Blue will take place on Sunday, September 11, from 8 a.m. to noon, in Lincoln Park at LaSalle and Stockton on Chicago’s lakefront. The event will honor prostate cancer survivors as warriors and guardians of the next generation and thank local first responders in recognition of 9/11. Prostate cancer survivor and baseball legend Ken Griffey Sr. will be there to remind men to speak up about prostate cancer.

The event features a 5K run certified by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) and a walk for individuals and teams. Physicians will provide disease education presentations. Free PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing will be available. The event includes a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers, music, free lunch and snacks, a “Family Fun Zone” for kids, and much more.

“There’s an urgent need for prostate cancer support, education and advocacy here in Chicagoland and across the country,” said Us TOO CEO Chuck Strand. “Within the next eight years, the number of men diagnosed with prostate cancer is estimated to increase from nearly three million today to 4.2 million as baby boomers age. Every one of these men and his loved ones will need information to make smart choices for minimizing the impact of the disease while maximizing the quality of life.”

“SEA Blue brings together Chicagoland’s prostate cancer community for a day of family fun, togetherness, self-empowerment, support, education, and remembrance. UroPartners is pleased to partner with Us TOO in increasing prostate cancer awareness through this event,” noted Dr. Richard Harris, CEO at UroPartners.

Event registration is $40 for adult runners, $35 for adult walkers, $25 for child runners, $20 for child walkers, and free for children six and under. Those unable to attend who still want to fundraise can register at no charge as a “virtual mover.”

SEA Blue is presented by Us TOO International and UroPartners (www.uropartners.com/). Primary event sponsors include: Astellas/Medivation, Bayer Healthcare, AbbVie, Novartis, Pints for Prostates, Boston Scientific, Dendreon, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Genomic Health, TOLMAR and Home Run Inn.
