Klick Dumps Buckets of Beer, Ketchup, and Pickles in Fun, New Twist to ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Company launches #WhatsInYourBucket Challenge on heels of NEK1 gene discovery

TORONTO--()--Ketchup is the new ice water. So are pickles, beer, cheese sauce, confetti, and just about anything else you can put in a bucket and dump over your head, according to Klick, creator of the #WhatsInYourBucket Challenge, an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge spin-off.

Today, the company posted the first of over 20 videos of employees getting drenched in a wide range of beverages, condiments and office supplies after challenging and asking friends, colleagues, and clients: “What’s In Your Bucket?” Klick hopes to help revive interest in the global fundraising phenomenon that went viral in 2014 and encourages others to take the #WhatsInYourBucket Challenge, too.

The initial post stars a Klick People Experience manager standing in a t-shirt and blue jeans under a three-gallon bucket with his arms open wide moments before getting covered in a mess of ketchup –much to the delight and cringes of over 100 spectators cheering him on.

“We must put an end to this devastating disease affecting so many people, including our friend Pat Quinn,” said Leerom Segal, Klick co-founder and CEO. “We hope that #WhatsInYourBucket reminds people why we started dumping buckets in 2014, especially since scientists may be on their way to finding a cure with the NEK1 gene just discovered thanks to funding from the Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Researchers at a gene sequencing study at University of Massachusetts Medical School identified the flawed NEK1 gene in significantly more people with ALS than those without it, suggesting it could be linked to ALS.

A strong supporter of ALS Research, participating in the Challenge has become very personal for the company, which does a lot of work in the healthcare space. Challenge Co-Founder Pat Quinn has shared his story at Klick events and he starred alongside 70 Klicksters in the filming of their unique Ice Bucket Challenge video last summer.

"The Klick family never fails to amaze me,” said Yonkers, NY-based Quinn. “Their continued support of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is so important. It's exciting to see their creative twist on the Challenge and I can't wait to see what's in everyone’s buckets this year!"

#WhatsInYourBucket videos & fundraising
Klick will post a video each workday in August on its social media channels, including Facebook; Instagram; Twitter; and LinkedIn in keeping with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’s official slogan “Every August Until A Cure.”

To support ALS research Klick will also donate funds to ALS Society of Canada whose CEO Tammy Moore said, “Our community knows all too well the urgency of keeping the momentum going to do more. I am delighted to see companies like Klick rally together, and remind us all that August is for raising awareness and funds to find a treatment to make ALS treatable, not terminal.”

About Pat Quinn and ALS
Quinn was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in March 2013 at the age of 30. He and fellow Co-Founder Pete Frates created the Challenge in 2014, sparking a viral campaign, which raised global awareness and $220 million for ALS research. Canadians donated $17 million, of which $11.5 million was allocated to ALS research and $4.4 million to help people living with ALS across the country.

ALS is a terminal neurodegenerative disease in which motor neurons or the ‘living wires’ that connect the muscles to the brain degenerate, taking away the ability to walk, talk and eventually breathe. There is no effective treatment or cure. ALS is indiscriminate of age, ethnicity, or sex and only 5-10% of people diagnosed will have a hereditary link.
