SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wedding season is upon us and Ebates, a pioneer and leader in cash back shopping and subsidiary of the global internet services company Rakuten, has released the results of their Wedding Season Survey. According to the survey, most Americans (59 percent) will attend at least one – and as many as five—weddings this year. The survey revealed that finding the right outfit is a top stressor for wedding-goers and that men spend more money on the weddings they attend, while women are more likely to use coupons and cash back when shopping for wedding gifts.
Wedding stressors
Feel stressed out when trying to find that perfect wedding outfit? You’re not alone. Nearly half of American women (44 percent) say finding the right outfit gives them the most anxiety when attending a wedding. Men, on the other hand, are more concerned about running into people they dislike:
What Gives You the Most Anxiety When Attending a Wedding?
Women | Men | |
1. Finding the right outfit – 44% | 1. Seeing people I dislike – 31%
2. Losing weight—28% | 2. Spending too much money—29%
3. Spending too much money—28% | 3. Finding the right outfit—27%
4. Seeing people I dislike—27% | 4. Finding the right gift—24%
5. Finding the right gift—24% |
5. Losing weight—21% | |
Men are also almost three times as likely as women to feel stressed out about finding the right date to a wedding – 14 percent cited this as a stressor compared to just 5 percent of women.
Men spend more, women spend smarter
Men will spend more on the weddings they attend this year. While a majority of women (55 percent) plan to spend $25-$100 on wedding gifts, the majority of men (45 percent) will spend between $50-$250.
However, this may be because women are shopping smarter for wedding gifts.
When asked about their favorite ways to save money on weddings, 32 percent of women said they use coupons and cash back to buy wedding gifts.
Other popular ways to save money (with men and women) include restyling dresses/suits (21 percent) and teaming up with a friend to split the cost of an expensive gift (19 percent).
“Planning and attending weddings can be a stressful experience for many,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates. “Whether planning a wedding or honeymoon, or shopping for gifts, shoppers can count on Ebates to provide the best coupons, discounts and cash back on wedding related purchases.”
