BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Translational Software®, Inc. (TSI), a leader in the intelligent use of genetic data for clinical decision support and precision medicine, today announced that Sanford Health, a Dakotas-based non-profit health system, and one of the largest integrated health systems in the nation, has selected TSI’s pharmacogenomics (PGx) knowledge base and PGx platform to expand its genomics program across multiple U.S. regions to personalize patient treatment and improve health outcomes throughout the Sanford Health enterprise.
Sanford Imagenetics is a comprehensive genomic medicine initiative launched in 2014 that aims to fully integrate the tools of genomic medicine into primary care for adults. This unique model uses each patient’s family history and genetic makeup to personalize treatment and facilitate the promotion of health and the management of chronic disease. One aspect of the program evaluates the genetic variability of how patients metabolize more than 22 different medications and classes of medications.
“Our goal is to provide precision medicine through the Imagenetics program so that our physicians are able to provide both personalized care and effective population health management for all Sanford Health patients as part of routine primary care,” said Cornelius F. Boerkoel, MD, PhD, Executive Director, Sanford Imagenetics Research Center on Genomic & Molecular Medicine and Executive Clinical Director, Sanford Genetics Laboratories.
TSI’s Knowledge-as-a-Service platform and Application Programming Interface (API) provides access to the company’s proprietary PGx portal and knowledge base for integrated drug-drug-gene information and clinical decision support. Clinicians are provided a tailored, clinically actionable report with concise molecular intelligence and critical alerts regarding drug efficacy, toxicity, and known drug-gene interactions. The report provides a list of all known medications for which dosing should be personalized based on the patient’s genetic test results, coupled with recommended medication alternatives and dosing guidance.
The PGx report will be integrated into the EPIC electronic health record to guide clinical decision making and enable physicians to prescribe the safest, most effective medications.
Don Rule, CEO of Translational Software, stated, “We are pleased that our new FHIR-based API technology architecture will provide a scalable PGx solution at Sanford Health. Ensuring integrated PGx results reporting, and making PGx data more accessible and less expensive, is a key element toward democratizing genomic medicine.”
With clinical reporting for nearly 40 genes, TSI’s platform can be tailored to a variety of clinical specialties including cardiovascular, psychiatric, pain and cancer as the Imagenetics program expands.
