WESTMINSTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To fight Massachusetts’ longstanding and devastating opioid epidemic, Recovery Centers of America (RCA) has named Jack Maroney, co-author of “The East Side of Addiction,” and founder of Spring Hill Recovery Center, as Chief Executive Officer of its Westminster center for addiction medicine.
With 26 years of experience in substance use disorder, Maroney will lead a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and offer a broad continuum of care at RCA at Westminster, which will be one of two Massachusetts locations in the network of addiction treatment centers RCA is opening throughout the Northeast. The company’s expansion is being financed by $231.5 million in funding secured through New York City-based Deerfield Management Company.
“The out-of-control opioid epidemic gripping our nation has not spared Worcester County, where there were 177 unintentional overdose deaths, compared to 1,400 in the state of Massachusetts in 2015,” says Chief Clinical Officer of Recovery Centers of America Dr. Deni Carise. “Based on these numbers, we believe there is an urgent need for our treatment model in Westminster. Jack’s experience and background as a native to the area ensures he is the perfect fit to lead this center.”
Maroney, whose career began over two decades ago when he drove those in need of treatment to meetings and progressed to founding a recovery center, will bring his philosophy of providing care in an environment that respects the individual, while working with their needs and abilities to RCA Westminster.
“RCA is redefining the patient-centered model of addiction medicine, a concept the industry uses in theory, but isn’t always evident in field-wide practices,” says Maroney. “Our commitment to excellence in environment and professionalism is an important aspect in creating security for the people we serve, a basic need in treatment. From there, staff will collaborate with each resident to create a comprehensive individualized treatment and aftercare plan that focuses on their strengths and preferences, making it more likely to engage in when they leave.”
