DHL Opens Retail Service Center in New York City

PLANTATION, Fla.--()--DHL, the world’s leading international express services provider, announced today it has expanded its operations in New York City with the opening of a new retail service center facility in lower Manhattan. The investment in its Manhattan operation adds a new, convenient drop-off spot for international shipping customers, while speeding shipments to one of the world’s largest financial centers.

The compact, 1,200 sq. ft. facility might be described as 100 percent “green,” with foot power replacing horsepower. Rather than pick-up and delivery vehicles, the facility deploys more than a dozen walking couriers who cover five ZIP codes throughout lower Manhattan’s financial district. And they beat their automotive counterparts in delivery time.

International express deliveries of envelopes and small packages are now delivered at least an hour earlier – by noon to most locations. The facility also provides a staffed customer counter for convenient drop-off of shipments.

“Wall Street and DHL both value speed in their work,” said Laurice Bancroft, DHL Sr. VP and General Manager for the Northeast. “Our new service helps get those all-important documents delivered to the area’s financial and legal firms that much earlier. We like to say it’s moving at the speed of the Big Yellow Machine — this one configured to the narrow nooks and crannies of lower Manhattan.”

The center complements the support that DHL currently provides to financial and legal firms in New York City through its helicopter service, which serves prime U.S. and federal bank locations in New York, with stops on Manhattan’s West Side and at Newark’s Liberty International Airport. With late pick-up service in New York City utilizing the helicopter, urgent financial or legal documents can still arrive next business day to London’s financial district.

DHL operations in New York City include a larger service center facility on Tenth Avenue and West 39th Street that serves the rest of Manhattan, in addition to facilities in the Boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. DHL operates one of its three U. S. gateway facilities at JFK Airport.

The new DHL Express Service Center is located at 130 Church Street, New York, NY 10007.
