SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced plans for a new fulfillment center in Braselton, Georgia. When opened, Amazon will create more than 500 new full-time jobs at the facility. The company currently has more than 1,500 full-time employees at its existing facilities in the state.
“We are excited to expand in the state of Georgia and add a new fulfillment center to better serve our customers in the region,” said Akash Chauhan, vice president of Amazon’s North America Operations. “This facility will create hundreds of new jobs with competitive pay and great benefits starting on day one. From the local community to state leadership, we appreciate the tremendous support from elected officials for this project and we look forward to growing in the Peach State.”
Amazon employees at the new 600,000 square-foot fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship large items for customers like household décor items, sporting equipment and gardening tools.
“Amazon’s decision to expand in Jackson County speaks to the strength and vitality of Georgia’s business-friendly environment,” said Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. “Georgia has a long-standing reputation for attracting leading businesses, and this project further bolsters Georgia as the nation’s No. 1 state in which to do business. We appreciate Amazon’s commitment to creating jobs in Georgia and wish them continued success in our state.”
Full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k) and company stock awards starting on day one, as well as generous maternity and parental leave benefits.
“Braselton is delighted to welcome Amazon to the town,” said Town of Braselton Mayor Bill Orr. “We have outstanding corporate citizenship and Amazon is a great addition and fit for our community. Our town looks forward to partnering with Amazon and its employees.”
Amazon also offers employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where it will pre-pay 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program’s launch, employees are pursuing degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
“Working with one of the world’s most recognizable global brands to grow their presence in Georgia is very exciting,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr. “We are grateful Amazon made the decision to locate a fulfillment center in Jackson County, and we look forward to working with them as they continue to impact the world from their Georgia operations.”
