VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Three of Vancouver’s top gourmet chefs are dishing it out to Fort McMurray in an extremely tasteful way.
The trio - Jefferson Alvarez, Kris Barnholden and Hamid Salimian are joining forces to produce some signature dishes to raise money for the northern Alberta city.
While many Canadians are already helping, the trio thought a unique way of raising money would be a special menu and dinner for “foodie aficionados.”
Chef Alvarez had already donated money on his own but wanted to do more. “The reason why I am doing this is simple, there are a lot of people in need right now, food brings people together so why don't we bring people to help and give them a sumptuous way of donating.”
It didn’t take long for the food vines to start producing added help for the ventures and food purveyors, farms and wineries have already jumped on board to support the venture.
“This wouldn’t be possible without our keen donors - Joie Farm Winery, TXOTX Spanish Apple Cider, Northern Divine Caviar, Hills Foods organic meats and Grown Here Farms for their microgreens,” Alvarez confirmed.
Krystine McInnes president and CEO of Grown Here Farms, didn’t hesitate after hearing about the fundraiser. “Firstly, we are all Canadians and have a tradition of helping each other in times of needs and this is a wonderful way to both help and expose our homegrown food expertise and products to as many people as possible,” she added.
The proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.
The menu promises to be a comestible tour-de-force with dishes like avocado gazpacho with arugula and sunflower microgreens and dessert pine gelato, dried apple and frosted reindeer moss hitting the plates.
