PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PetSmart, The Adopt Spot, is announcing today that it will hold its second National Adoption Weekend of the year at all of its 1,450 PetSmart stores across North America, May 13-15, where it expects to adopt out thousands of pets in a single weekend.

Last year PetSmart hit a major milestone, adopting out more than 500,000 pets in a single year and soon will achieve the 7 millionth life saved since starting its in-store adoption program with PetSmart Charities in 1994. Based on figures from 2015, for every minute a PetSmart store is open, two pets are adopted and about 1,400 pets’ lives are saved every day.
The Adopt Spot
PetSmart is The Adopt Spot, where every day pets find their forever homes among PetSmart’s pet-loving customers and guests. It's a place where people save pets. Since its founding in 1987, PetSmart recognized the pet homelessness problem and made a decision to never sell dogs or cats. In 1994, PetSmart Charities was created as a nonprofit with a mission to end pet homelessness.
Each year, about 7 million pets enter shelters across North America and some 3 million healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized. To save lives, PetSmart joins PetSmart Charities, PetSmart Charities™ of Canada and nearly 3,000 local animal welfare organizations across North America on a range of powerful adoption events in PetSmart stores including National Adoption Weekends held four times a year.
PetSmart adoption services now include an enhanced experience in stores with special gifts to new pet adopters for saving a life including an adoption certificate, an “I Adopted” sticker and a free Adoption Kit. The Adoption Kit is available to any new adopter – whether adopting at PetSmart or elsewhere – and includes tips on how to care for a new cat or dog and coupons valued at more than $400 in savings on all the items needed to care for the new pet including beds, bowls, collars, leashes, and free one-time services such as veterinarian, grooming, boarding, training and Doggie Day Camp. Also included is a free bag of dog or cat food from Simply Nourish™, Authority® or Good Natured™ – all proud sponsors of National Adoption Weekend events.
Adopt at a Ballgame
In addition to adoptions at 1,450 stores, PetSmart also believes adoptions can happen anywhere, at any time – even at a baseball game! Last month, PetSmart and the Arizona Diamondbacks together launched The Adopt Spot at Chase Field where baseball fans have adopted dogs during Sunday Dog Days of Summer home games at a consistent rate. On May 15, during National Adoption Weekend, fans can adopt a dog at The Adopt Spot at Chase Field when the D-backs take on the Giants. So far, of the dogs available for adoption at the stadium, more than 75 percent are finding their forever homes among the D-backs fan base.
