AHF Opens Houston Wellness Center

Clinic in Houston Medical Center will provide free screenings for STDs, HIV on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-6PM

HOUSTON--()--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) opened its newest Wellness Center last week in Houston and will offer free, confidential screenings for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV testing, from its location in the Houston Medical Center at 1200 Binz Street, Suite 1290. The Wellness Center will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

AHF Wellness Centers are designed to make testing and treatment for STDs accessible, convenient, and affordable, as well as to encourage regular sexual health screenings for all sexually active people. Services offered include free HIV testing and free screening and treatment for Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The Wellness Center is a program of AHF Healthcare Center – Houston, AHF’s full-service clinic led by Dr. Benjamin Portnoy that provides comprehensive medical care and treatment to people living with HIV/AIDS. “We are excited to add our Wellness Center services to our Houston Healthcare Center and expand our ability to offer STD and HIV screenings for sexually active adults in a convenient, confidential environment,” said Bret Camp, AHF’s Regional Director for Texas. “With cultural changes and the rise of mobile dating and hook up apps helping to fuel the rise of sexually transmitted diseases—especially among young adults—we want to empower people to make routine STD screenings a key component of their plans for healthy living.”

According to 2014 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Houston/Harris County reported 24,785 cases of chlamydia, 7,126 cases of gonorrhea and 366 cases of primary and secondary syphilis. 1,338 new HIV diagnoses were also reported in 2014.
