LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--XPRIZE, the global leader in designing and managing incentive competitions to solve humanity’s grand challenges, announced that Marcus Shingles has joined the organization as chief executive officer. He brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in industry (Kellogg Company), management consulting (Ernst & Young LLP and Deloitte LLP), and as a successful entrepreneur (company founder). Shingles’ areas of expertise are building innovation ecosystems and developing disruptive innovation strategies at some of the world’s most premier organizations. Founder Peter H. Diamandis, M.D., who previously held the CEO title, remains as executive chairman of the board.
Shingles will work closely with XPRIZE’s executive team, board of directors and trustees to develop and carry forward the organization’s strategies for continued global leadership in driving “moon-shot” innovation that tackles the world’s grandest challenges.
“This is an exciting time for XPRIZE, as we’ve invited innovators from around the world to address more Grand Challenges than ever before, with the launch of four new competitions in the last 12 months and an ambitious roadmap for global expansion,” said Diamandis. “I have great confidence in Marcus, and I know him to be a strong leader with an innovative mindset, and a passion to guide our Foundation to its next level of evolution as we continue building a bold and agile organization.”
Most recently, Shingles served as a partner and leader of Deloitte Consulting’s Innovation Group, where his responsibilities included building innovation ecosystems with the global startup community, driving strategic partnerships with change-makers and working with Fortune 200 C-suite executives and government leaders to harness the disruptive advantages associated with ‘exponentials’.
In addition, Shingles is recognized as a social pioneer in his community, having redesigned a school curriculum to bring “exponential entrepreneur” training to high school students in under-served communities in the Los Angeles and Boston public school systems.
“I’m looking forward to, and am sincerely passionate about, going all in and pivoting my energy and focus toward solving the world’s grandest challenges. The world now, perhaps more than ever, needs to consider more progressive and innovative methods – such as incentive competition, prize-methodology, and gamification models – to crowdsource a planet of bold entrepreneurs to drive societal change and innovative solutions,” said Shingles. “The resources, team, and ecosystem at XPRIZE comprise an incredible portfolio of assets that I truly believe can inspire and change the world, one Prize at a time. I’m very humbled and fortunate to have this unique opportunity and responsibility.”
