Watkins, a 148-year-old manufacturer of gourmet food, home and personal care products, is pleased to announce its new line of all-natural food coloring, launching in April of 2016. The 4-color kit will offer four colors: blue, yellow, red and green, made with 100 percent natural vegetable juices and spices including beet juice, turmeric, and spirulina extract. The kit provides an option to make all-natural colors at home. The J.R. Watkins Natural Food Coloring Kits will become available for $8.99 (MSRP) at Target, Hy-Vee, JRWatkins.com, and a number of other retailers across North America.

In recent years, numerous companies like Nestle and General Mills have removed the use of artificial color additives as a result of an FDA investigation on adverse behavioral effects from exposure. The demand for natural colorings arose in 2007 when the colorings were linked to hyperactivity in children. Other companies include Kraft, who announced that their classic macaroni and cheese will debut in 2016 without synthetic colors, and Panera Bread pledged to ditch artificial colorings and other additives by the end of 2016.
