PHOENIX--()--SelectBlinds.com, a leading online retailer of custom window coverings, today announced the Phoenix-based company’s landmark sales transition to a 100 percent cordless offering, effective today. The bold move represents a first for the custom window covering industry. SelectBlinds.com has kicked off a Go Cordless initiative in advance of National Window Safety Week, April 3 - 9, 2016, to educate and empower consumers and the window covering industry on reducing the risk of accidental window cord strangling of young kids and pets.

“Cordless window coverings are the only way to be 100 percent kid safe,” said Al Silverberg, SelectBlinds.com’s co-founder and CEO. “Safety has always been a top priority for Select Blinds. But we feel more can be done to promote a safe and beautiful living environment to protect our children and pets. We are encouraging the industry and caregivers to eliminate any risk for a window covering cord accident by going 100 percent cordless.”

#GoCordless Movement

SelectBlinds.com is asking consumers and the industry to join them in the #GoCordless Movement to help prevent needless deaths and injuries by creating safer living environments. Go to www.selectblinds.com/gocordless for more information, to share on social channels, and to nominate a deserving individual for a cost-free upgrade to custom cordless window coverings.

100 Percent Cordless for Life

More than 20 children a year in the United States, on average, are injured or killed by a window covering cord, according to statistics maintained by the Parents for Window Blind Safety (PFWBS). A child can lose consciousness in 15 seconds, and a life can be lost in one minute. Corded-related window covering accidents are known as the silent killer and have happened while caregivers are just steps away, shares the PFWBS.

Linda Kaiser and her husband Matt formed Parents for Window Blind Safety in 2002, after their daughter, Cheyenne Rose, died as a result of being strangled by a window blind cord. Linda Kaiser applauds Select Blinds’ move to go 100 percent cordless.

“This move by Select Blinds is a breath of fresh air. Our hope is that all industry retailers and manufacturers will join Select Blinds, and junk their cords, so that consumers can buy kid-safe products without confusion,” PFWBS’s Kaiser stated. “Hanging cords impact everyone. Cords are unattractive on any window covering, but are supposed to be easy for everyone to operate. The fact is they get tangled and become difficult to operate. Cordless blinds are preferred by the elderly and disabled due to the ease of operation with extension wands and motorized products sold by the industry.”

Project Cordless Giveaway

Each month, SelectBlinds.com is partnering with Parents for Window Blind Safety for Project Cordless to upgrade an entire home, apartment, military housing unit or daycare facility with custom cordless window coverings at no charge. Go to www.selectblinds.com/gocordless.html#ProjectCordless to submit a 30-second video to nominate your friend, colleague or family member for Project Cordless. Nominations will be accepted now through 12 AM, January 1, 2017. Share your inspiring stories of individuals that have shown strength in ways you never thought possible. And let’s make every home safer, more beautiful and cordless.

“We want to spread the word that there is room for change in a multi-billion dollar industry that tends to be dominated by corded window coverings,” said Rick Steele, SelectBlinds.com’s co-founder and CMO. “Together we can transition to a cordless environment that is kid safe and pet safe.”

Steele is recipient of the Harvard University/Harvard Business School 2015 Humanitarian of the Year Award for working to transform the window covering industry to cordless. He reinforced that SelectBlinds.com’s more than 1 million customers can rest assured that all Select Blinds’ products are compliant with the current industry safety standard and guidelines. The company will continue to offer its free cord cleat program and honor product warranties on items no longer available at SelectBlinds.com.
