SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--InvenSense, Inc. (NYSE:INVN), a leading provider of MEMS sensor platforms, today announced that Gionee, one of China’s largest smart phone manufacturers, selected the InvenSense ICS-40720 for its latest flagship smartphone, the Gionee S8. InvenSense’s ICS-40720 is an ultra-low noise microphone that provides superior audio video experience. As mobile devices continue to gain traction as consumers’ primary means of video capture, the availability of gyro-enhanced electronic image stabilization and the ability to capture equally high quality audio has OEMs seeking the best combination of solutions available. The ICS-40720’s class-leading 70dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance enables such an experience. Low noise performance is particularly important in multi-microphone applications, where precise matched sets are used to clearly record voice and music, separating them from ambient noise, for example in a live recording or school play.
The pro-level low noise performance of the InvenSense ICS-40720 microphone is also highly beneficial in use cases where the mobile device is utilized as a speakerphone, such as a conference room or group setting. The ICS-40720 solution is able to clearly capture the user’s voice, even at a distance, providing greater freedom of movement and placement.
Such use cases are not the exclusive domain of mobile phones; customers of wearable and IoT platforms have also sought a solution to recognize voice commands across varying distances in the natural course of use. The InvenSense ICS-40720 enables a primary means of control for these devices and enhances end-user satisfaction in natural use scenarios.
“Gionee required superior audio capture performance in far-field use cases, specifically quality audio capture during video and conference calling. The InvenSense solution enabled Gionee S8’s far-field audio recorder quality to match its improved video quality during video recording mode, thus facilitating Gionee to set its S8 apart with a differentiated audio experience,” said Eitan Medina, vice president marketing and product management at InvenSense. “We are pleased that Gionee, a company devoted to developing innovative smart phones and one of the world's top 10 smartphone makers, shipping to more than 50 countries worldwide, has partnered with InvenSense for its innovative audio solutions.”
InvenSense’s ICS-40720 is available now in production quantities in bottom port package configuration.
