SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Counsyl, a health technology company that offers DNA testing for diseases that can impact men, women and their children, today announced that John Tan has joined the company as senior vice president of operations. With more than 25 years of experience in managing global manufacturing operations, Tan will be responsible for scaling and optimizing operations including quality, supply chain, IT and engineering.
“Getting timely, reliable answers back to our customers reduces anxiety, allows for better clinical decisions, and is the foundation for a sustainable competitive advantage,” said Ramji Srinivasan, cofounder and chief executive officer of Counsyl. “John will play an essential role in continuing to build this function. His history of innovative design implementation and operational know-how makes him a natural fit for Counsyl.”
Tan joins Counsyl from Amazon, where he most recently served as vice president of global operations engineering. In that role, John was responsible for the engineering design and capital procurement of a multi-billion dollar group for Amazon’s worldwide fulfillment centers, fresh/pantry facilities and transportation logistics. Prior to Amazon, John served in senior operations roles at both Thermo Fisher and PerkinElmer, both in the U.S. and abroad.
“Counsyl is at the tipping point of scaling the business and providing genetic screening to a broad population,” said Tan. “I am looking forward to fueling Counsyl’s growth by driving operational and quality efficiencies and building a world-class team.”
About Counsyl
Counsyl is a health technology company that offers DNA testing for diseases that can impact men, women and their children. The Counsyl philosophy is simple: screen for diseases where advanced knowledge makes a difference in health outcomes, whether it’s changing a behavior, pursuing preventative measures, or simply preparing for what lies ahead.
The Counsyl team includes an accomplished group of problem-solvers — top engineers, scientists, and designers — who are taking the lead on building the modern clinical laboratory. Scientific rigor, custom robotics, and software are at the heart of every Counsyl product, resulting in better, faster and more affordable screens that are broadly accessible. Beyond the laboratory, Counsyl offers doctors and patients a technology platform for results delivery in real time, with on-demand access to board-certified genetic counselors. Counsyl has screened more than 500,000 patients and served more than 6,000 health care professionals in its CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited and NYS CLEP-permitted clinical laboratory.
