Lifetime Achievement Award
Art Coviello, Jr
In 2015, Art Coviello retired as Executive Chairman of RSA, The Security Division of EMC. During Mr. Coviello’s two-decade career at RSA, the company evolved from its roots in authentication and encryption to being a leader in the most important emerging areas of information security, including security analytics, identity, and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC). Mr. Coviello was the driving force in RSA’s rapid growth during his tenure, increasing revenue from $25 million in 1995 to revenues of more than $1 billion in 2014.
Prior to RSA, Mr. Coviello had extensive operating and financial management expertise in several technology companies. In retirement, Mr. Coviello works with companies, industries and governments to continue informing and shaping the evolution of security strategy to meet the challenges facing organizations today and tomorrow. Mr. Coviello’s decades of expertise and influence have made him a recognized leader in the industry. He plays key roles in national and international cyber-security initiatives and is a regular speaker at conferences and forums around the world. Mr. Coviello is a venture partner at Rally Ventures, and serves on the Boards of Directors at Synchrony Financial, EnerNOC, Cylance, Optiv and Bugcrowd.
Award for Excellence in the Field of Information Security
Roland Cloutier, CSO, ADP
As the CSO of ADP, Roland Cloutier brings a wealth of global protection and security leadership experience to one of the world's largest providers of human capital management solutions. Roland has functional and operational responsibility for ADP’s cyber, information protection, operational risk, workforce protection, crisis management and investigative and protective security service operations worldwide. His expertise includes the management of strategic converged security and global business protection programs, and he is a visionary and published author in the area of business operations protection programs.
Under his leadership, ADP’s Global Security Organization has made significant strides in promoting and bringing awareness of security and privacy to the entire ADP organization and their millions of clients around the world. Roland’s vision included the creation of global councils that bring together thought leaders and stakeholders from various business units and divisions of the company, as well as clients, to address critical security issues and risks such as fraud, healthcare information, physical data management and global data privacy. Roland has successfully launched international security operations across the globe at ADP, including an expanded network of Critical Incident Response Centers, Security Centers of Excellence, and the reformatting of the organization and integration into ADP’s global business operations.
Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics
Professor Ueli Maurer, ETH Zurich
Ueli Maurer is professor of computer science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich. His research interests include theory and applications of cryptography, information security, theoretical computer science, information theory, and discrete mathematics. One of his long-term research goals is to establish a constructive theory of cryptography and to apply it to the modular design of provably-secure cryptographic protocols.
He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cryptology from 2002 to 2010, as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, and currently serves as associate editor for the Journal of Computer and System Sciences. He is an IEEE Fellow, an ACM Fellow, an IACR Fellow, and a member of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina). He was the 2000 Rademacher Lecturer of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania and received the 2013 Vodafone Innovation Award for Mobile Communications. Maurer has served several companies and start-ups as board member and consultant.
Award for Excellence in the Field of Public Policy
Christopher M.E. Painter, Coordinator for Cyber Issues, U.S. Department of State
Mr. Painter has been on the vanguard of cyber issues for over twenty years. In his current role as the Secretary of State’s first Coordinator for Cyber Issues, Mr. Painter coordinates and leads the United States’ diplomatic efforts to advance an open, interoperable, secure and reliable Internet and information infrastructure. He works closely with components across the Department, other agencies, the White House, the private sector and civil society to implement the President’s International Strategy for Cyberspace and ensures that U.S. foreign policy positions on cross-cutting cyber issues are fully synchronized. These issues include promoting norms of responsible state behavior and cyber stability, advancing cybersecurity, fighting cybercrime, promoting multi-stakeholder Internet governance and advancing Internet freedom.
For over twenty years, Mr. Painter has been a leader in cyber issues. Mr. Painter began his federal career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles where he led some of the most high profile and significant cybercrime prosecutions in the country. He has held leadership positions in the Department of Justice’s Computer Crimes and Intellectual Property Section and the FBI’s Cyber Division, and he served for two years as senior director of the Cyber Directorate of the National Security Council in the White House. He has represented the United States in numerous international fora, including chairing the cutting edge G8 High Tech Crime Subgroup from 2002-2012. He has worked with dozens of foreign governments in bilateral meetings and has been a frequent spokesperson and presenter on cyber issues around the globe. Mr. Painter is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Cornell University.
